It is thirteen miles north of Gainesville and is located on county road 142 north of Route 95. Souder post office was established in 1903 and named for the family name of the first postmaster.〔(Ozark County post offices )〕〔(''Ozark County Place Names, 1928-1945,'' State Historical Society of Missouri )〕 The post office closed in the 1990s. It was turned into a store which in now closed, but owned by Janet and Rory Bright. Mail is now served by Wasola. The old school house is still standing but poorly maintained. The Souder church still holds service.
